Since its initial release date on 20 July 2017, Fornite has had a whole slew of seasons filled with exciting rewards and events.
Series of seasons
The way the game segments its content is by Chapters, each of which consists of a series of seasons. So far, it seems Epic has been introducing 10 seasons per Chapter but that may change.
Below, we look back at all the past Fortnite Chapters and Seasons to help give you an idea of what to expect from the game in the future.
Chapter 1
Chapter 1 kicked off with the game’s very first season on 26 September 2017. Here’s how its seasons went:
Season 1
Start date: September 26, 2017
End date: December 13, 2017
Major additions:
- Fortnite gets its first progression system
- Season Item Shop and V-Bucks purchasing
- Bigger map with 13 areas
Season 2
Start date: December 13, 2017
End date: February 21, 2018
Major additions:
- Battle Pass replaces Season Item Shop
- Daily Challenges added
- New named areas and points of interest
Season 3
Start date: February 22, 2018
End date: April 30, 2018
Major additions:
- Battle Pass reduced from 1800 V-Bucks to 950
- Daily Challenges become Weekly Challenges with Free and Battle Pass Tiers
- Comet event
Season 4
Start date: May 1, 2018
End date: July 11, 2018
Major additions:
- New areas are added to the map while others are destroyed during the Comet event
- Superhero-themed events
- New named areas and points of interest
Season 5
Start date: July 12, 2018
End date: September 26, 2018
Major additions:
- Worlds Collide event featuring real-world era crossovers
- New map desert biome with new named locations
- Progression challenges are no longer restricted to their seasons
Season 6
Start date: September 27, 2018
End date: December 5, 2018
Major additions:
- Darkness Rises theme event featuring a six-sided mystery
- Major map changes including Haunted Castle, Floating Island, and Corn Fields
- Pet companions are added to the game
Season 7
Start date: December 6, 2018
End date: February 27, 2019
Major additions:
- Iceberg collides with the Island, expanding it and covering a portion of it in snow
- Other map changes include the addition of Ziplines and a new vehicle called X-4 Stormwing
- Creative mode is added to the game
Season 8
Start date: February 28, 2019
End date: May 8, 2019
Major additions:
- A volcano rises up from Wailing Woods and adds a jungle biome
- Pirates invade the island, adding interactable cannons and campsites
- A set of treasure hunt riddles lead up to the start of the season
Season 9
Start date: May 9, 2019
End date: July 31, 2019
Major additions:
- Major revamps to areas are introduced, including Retail Row and Tilted Towers
- Slipstreams and sky platforms are added, giving players more fun ways to move around
- Fortbytes are introduced as rewards for completing tasks
Season 10/X
Start date: August 1, 2019
End date: October 13, 2019
Major additions:
- A giant frozen meteor is added to the map
- Giant mechs are introduced as combat vehicles
- Missions are new objectives added to the Battle Pass
Chapter 2
Season 1
Start date: October 15, 2019
End date: February 19, 2020
Major additions:
- Battle Pass and Free Pass become one
- Leveling and tier system is also merged into one
- Theme missions are introduced
Season 2
Start date: February 20, 2020
End date: June 17, 2020
Major additions:
- The Challenge Table is introduced
- The Daily Challenge board is introduced
- The Agents event kicks off
Season 3

End date: August 27, 2020
Major additions:
- New Battle Pass tab is introduced
- Map challenges similar to the challenge table
- Build-a-Brella is added to the game
Season 4
Start date: August 27, 2020

Major additions:
- New Battle Pass featuring Marvel characters and cosmetics is introduced
- Wolverine and Punch Card challenges begin
- Devourer of Worlds Event kicks off
Season 5
Start date: December 2, 2020
End date: March 15, 2021
Major additions:
- Battle Pass returns to its original form from Chapter 2 Season 1
- New Quest system is added to the game
- Fortnite Crew subscription is added to the game
Season 6
Start date: March 16, 2021
End date: June 7, 2021
Major additions:
- A slew of new cosmetics and weapons are added to the game
- Minor changes to the map are made
Season 7
Start date: June 8, 2021
End date: September 12, 2021
Major additions:
- New theme and events related to Alien Invasions are introduced
- Hovering UFOs that can be captured and flown are added to the game
- New alien-themed weapons are added to the game
