Post-apocalyptic games are some of our favorites. They have such mesmerizing and confusingly dark open worlds, along with some extremely graphic and brutal gameplay.

Perhaps this is why we’re magnetized to these games, the sheer fun that you can have in these games is hardly found in any other game as well as the dramatic settings.

Here’s a list of the top 10 best post-apocalyptic games.


10. Mad Max

Avalanche studios created Mad Max in a heated moment, where they just wanted to create a game that revolves around tons of destruction and the nitty-gritty combat.

That’s when Mad Max was born, a game made on one of the most iconic characters in popular culture. It’s really rambunctious and features amazing action sequences and a really engaging story.


9. Telltale’s The Walking Dead

Telltale’s The Walking Dead is one of the most unique, cinematic, and exciting video games we’ve played in a while.

It features one of the best stories that I’ve ever played in a game, as well as features some of the best characters that I could invest my time into knowing better.

The one thing that I enjoyed a lot about this game are the performances, and the graphics being so artistically unique. Check this one out for sure.


8. Far Cry New Dawn

Ubisoft has a penchant for creating some of the best open worlds in gaming, yet they definitely missed the mark with the far cry series. However, far cry new dawn was a fantastic return to form for the franchise as they headed into a new direction.

The gameplay was quite similar to far cry 5, yet the fantastic and colorful post-apocalyptic setting is what set it apart.


7. Wasteland 3

When it comes to top-down RPGs, Wasteland 3 is one of the best out there.

This is a game that revolves around a huge amount of role-playing, as well as a ton of focus on your character and your party.

If you want a story that you can dive deep into, this is the one right here!


6. Dying Light

A zombie game that revolves around a ton of traversal through parkour and movement, Dying Light has set a high bar for zombie games in the future.

While Dying Light 2 seems like a distant memory, the original game featured some of the best gameplay mechanics and revolutionized the parkour gameplay in a zombie game.


5. Fallout New Vegas

This used to be the greatest post-apocalyptic game ever released once, yet now in the current climate of things, it has fallen down a bit.

What hasn’t fallen down though, is the quality of this action RPG post-apocalyptic, story-driven masterpiece of a video game. Obsidian studios did a hell of a job-creating Fallout New Vegas, in doing so they created one of the greatest open worlds as well as one of the greatest branching narratives ever made.


4. Death Stranding

Hideo Kojima, known as the greatest inventor in gaming, Once again chose to revolutionize gaming by creating a new genre of its own.

The so-called strand type game, death stranding is a masterpiece. Not just from a story standpoint, but also from the acting, the music, the graphical fidelity, the amazing and very unique gameplay mechanics as well as the story itself.

This game has everything going for it if you only try and give it a chance.


3. The Last of Us

Naughty Dog’s master class in video game storytelling; the Last of Us is a brand now. This was one of the most impeccably written stories ever created in gaming, and the fact that it was brought to life in a post-apocalyptic, horror, and action setting made it even better.

Joel and Ellie’s story is by far the most heart-warming and gut-wrenching at the same time. Everyone should experience this game at least once in their lives.


2. Metro Exodus

Metro Exodus is the latest chapter in the metro series, and it is by far the best one yet. As the squad heads out of the subway tunnels within Moscow, to explore a larger part of Russia. This game has some of the best shooting mechanics, as well as by far the best-surviving mechanics in any game out there.

Not to mention the world is extremely believable, oftentimes beautiful, and mostly terrifying.


1. S.T.A.L.K.E.R

I will be completely honest. I couldn’t muster up enough courage to name just one of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games. To be 100% frank, every single part of this game is a masterpiece.

You are thrown into the Chernobyl extraction zone, where mutated beings, other stalkers and rival factions fight for survival and scraps. S.T.A.L.K.E.R has the most extensive lore, some of the best-surviving mechanics and a haunting environment that will eat at you while you are playing the game.

If you want a game that is going to immerse you within its post-apocalyptic setting, S.T.A.L.K.E.R is the go-to.
