The most coveted cosmetics in Fortnite are skins and those tend to command some of the higher V-Buck prices. Luckily, there are some free skins in Fortnite, whether on PS4 or otherwise, that you can get without paying a dime.

Fortnite: Battle Royale is a free-to-play game. This means you can play and enjoy the core game without spending a dime of your hard-earned money. What that also means, though, is that there are a lot of monetization elements in the game that ultimately boil down to cosmetics.

The lion’s share of the stuff that allows you to personalize your avatar and express yourself is locked behind this paywall of monetization, which is fine considering that they go towards the game’s development and server maintenance.

V-Bucks and the Item Shop

The place where you can get cosmetic items is Fortnite’s in-game shop called the Item Shop.

To give you an idea of the prices at play here, the two Featured items that rotate weekly cost between 1500 and 2000 V-Bucks. 1000 V-Bucks cost $9.99. If you’re not looking to pay that kind of money, then you’ve got a few options.

Battle Pass

The Battle Pass is Fortnite’s progression system that has two pathways, a free one and a paid one. You progress through your Battle Pass by playing the game to earn XP. Each level you acquire rewards you with an item. As you might expect, the free pathway is quite stingy but it does reward you with free V-Bucks.

You can save up these free V-Bucks to purchase a skin of your choice. However, the smarter choice is to use those V-Bucks to pick up the paid Battle Pass. Within its 65+ levels, the latest Chapter of Fortnite contains 7 free skins and 1500 V-Bucks total among other goodies. This is one of the most surefire ways to get free skins in Fortnite on PS4 and beyond.

Playstation Plus Skins

If you’re both a Fortnite player and a Playstation Plus subscriber, you have access to an exclusive free skin.

This skin can only be unlocked on PS4 via the PS Plus subscription but can later be used on other platforms thanks to Fortnite’s cross-save system. Playstation Plus members also get regular discounts on V-Bucks as well as bundle packs that contain cosmetics and V-Bucks at low prices.

The PS5 is on the market since November 2020 and it’s proven to be popular. Read more about PS4 vs PS5 and their differences.

Being an Amazon Prime subscriber also makes you a Twitch Prime member.

All you simply need to do is link your Amazon account to your Twitch account and you’re off to the races.

The platform rewards a regular stream of free content for a variety of games, including Fortnite.

There are three free skins you can get as a Twitch Prime member by linking your Epic Games account, and those are Havoc, Trailblazer and Sub Commander.

As you’ll probably realize, the selection of outright free skins in Fortnite is quite thin.

  • The best way to go about obtaining free skins is to choose the skin you like and save up free V-Bucks via the Battle Pass.
  • This doesn’t make it easy to get time-limited skins but the game is continuously getting updated so there are always cool skins to choose from.
  • And the cool thing is, every player can have fun with one of the many Fortnite dances. For free.
